This stunning sculpture is hand-carved from a single piece of GREEN SERPENTINE by 3rd Generation SHONA artist, DICKINSON DICKINSON.
Dickinson is 45 years old and his Totem is Phiri Soko.
After his education in 1997, he started sculpting with encouragenment from his father, Chintema Bigson and his uncle, Kavance Machire. He focused on birds, human forms, magicians, ashtrays and fish. Having helped his father try to complete a commission of elephants for a client at Tengenenge, he decided to sell the ones he had managed to complete himself, which he did successfully. He now devotes all his sculpting skills to creating elephants full time at the Tengenenge Art Centre.
He looks forward to the day when he has his own family and to earning a decent income sculpting.
'CORONA' is very simple in design, with attractive contrast between the polished and raw stone.
