This is such a pretty piece and beautifully hand-carved by 3rd Generation lady artist, LORRAINE MAMVURA.
Inspired and encouraged by her husband, LORRAINE now works as a full time sculptor at the Chitungwiza Art Centre. Living in a partriarchal society, it is very difficult for women in Zimbabwe to take up sculpting, mainly because it is viewed as a man's job. It also requires additional time and commitment, on top of all the other commitments a woman there is expected to carry out.
Created from a single piece of COBALT. The colours are stunning. The raw stone contrasts beautifully with the polished work to best effect and the dress gives the appearance of floating.
