This stunning sculpture is hand-carved from a single piece of SPRINGSTONE by 3rd Generation Shona artist, NESBERT MUKUMBERANWA.
Mukumberanwa was born in Buhera in 1969. He first began sculpting, under the instruction of his uncle, Nicholas Mukumberanwa, in 1987. Two years later, he decided to start up on his own, establishing a workshop in Chitungwiza. A decade later, he moved to Dema where he serves as a teacher and has set up a Village Gallery where young sculptors can exhibit their work.
Mukumberanwa's work has been exhibited in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Switzerland and the United States.
Well known for his simplistic style, it is the simplicity of this sculpture that makes it such a stunning piece.
