Hand sculpted from a single piece of BROWN SERPENTINE by 1st Generation SHONA artist, DAVID MASHONGA.
This whimsical, vintage sculpture was part of the personal collection of Tom Blomfield, founder of the Tengenenge Art Centre in Zimbabwe and the artist sculpted this piece especially for him.
Tom died on 8th April 2020 and his some of collection is now being offered for sale.
David started his career by sculpting animals in wood but with encouragement from Tom, started sculpting in stone and moved to Tengenenge.
Fed up with his designs being copied, he created a style that could not be easily duplicated by other artists and at the age of 70, he is still sculpting today.
Signed by the artist.
A unique and unusual gift.
