ARTIST: JAMES PHIRI
This stunning sculpture is sculpted from COBALT by 3rd Generation SHONA artist, JAMES PHIRI.
James was born on the 23rd December 1986 and is the second son in a family of three boys.
His parents died when he was young, so James was unable to complete his education. A familiar scenerio to many children growing up in Zimbabwe.
Fortunately he had already been inspired to become a sculptor, thanks to his father, who was also a sculptor. Self taught, he developed his own style, flowers being a particular interest.
His ambition is to recognised as a sculptor and to sell his work worldwide. He has already sold to many countries, including the Netherlands, United States, UK and Germany.
COBALT is normally blue but turns brown when readily mixed with water and oxygen. It is relatively hard to sculpt because of its iron deposits and the fact it develops in layers, similar to slate.
This piece would enhance any home setting.
Lovely colours and markings throughout.
Would make a wonderful and unique gift.
