    ARTIST: LAST MAHWAHWA

This lovely sculpture is hand-carved from a single piece BLACK & RED SERPENTINE by 3rd Generation SHONA artist, LAST MAHWAHWA.

LAST MAHWAHWA was born on the 18th May 1972 at Nyamhondoro village in Guruve. He belongs to the Zenzuru Tribe of the Nhan Unendoro (elephant) totem.

Having spent his childhood herding cattle with the other boys in his village, he also enjoyed swimming, hunting birds and clay moulding.

Having been inspired by his friend Tendai Makina, he started sculpting from home and took his finished works to Tengenege and Chapungu Art Centre to sell. He eventually moved to Tengenenge in 1995. His first sculpture there was a Pangolin. This was followed by a sculpture depicting a mother and child, a subject close to his heart.

Last holds the belief that his ancestors live on through supernatural beings.

Beautifully detailed and lovely colour throughout.

Would look fabulous in any home or garden setting.

    Dimensions: H46 x W28 x D17cms.
