A very handsome specimen, sculpted from a single piece of HYENA STONE by 2nd Generation SHONA artist, SIMON CRETO.
Simon was born on the 15th August 1967 into a large family of five boys and five girls in the Mashingo Province.
He received his primary education at St Mary's and his secondary education at Zengeza High in the Chitungwiza Township.
He started sculpting in 1993 and was inspired by the late Kennedy Phiri. Sculpting rhinos, chameleons, crocodiles and frogs. His favourite being the latter, creating them from such stones as cobalt, verdite, fruit serpentine and opal. Favouring frogs in particular because he considers them to be a wonderful sight.
He works at the Chitungwiza Art Centre, where he enjoys working with other artists.
Believed to strengthen all kinds of relationships, GREEN OPAL is referred to as the 'stone of change'. It is thought to have spiritual qualities and assists opening up psychically. Physically is can help soothe a fever, reduce infection and improve memory.
OPAL is thought to alleviate fear and provide comfort to those grieving.
It is a lovely, gentle, supportive stone.
Lovely rich dark green colouration.
