ARTIST: TAFADZWA CHANAKIRA
This stunning sculpture is hand carved from a single piece of AVOCADO STONE by 3rd Generation SHONA artist, TAFADZWA CHANAKIRA.
TAFADZWA CHANAKIRA was born 16th September 1983 in Guruve.
His primary education was at Nyanhunzi Primary School and he studied for his O-levels at Magaya Secondary School in Guruve.
His father inspired him to sculpt and he completed his first sculpture in 2001. He gained experience working with Shona artists, Wedson Tadzimirwa and Jack Jonas. His inspiration for his abstract art comes from the surrounding environment and this also helps him when naming each piece.
He now teaches the fundamentals of sculpting to other aspiring artists and hopes that his work becomes known worldwide.
