ARTIST: TAMUKA GORERINO
This stunning vintage sculpture is hand-carved from a single piece of SERPENTINE by 3rd Generation SHONA artist, TAMUKA GORERINO.
Tamuka was born 17th January 1978 in Guruve, Zimbabwe. His family come from Mhondoro, Guruve.
As a child he was greatly influenced by the work of Edronce Rukodzi and having finished his A- levels he became an apprentice at the Rudkodzi studio, after which he joined his older brother Tapiwa and started to work from home.
He likes to sculpt mainly women, figures and birds. Many of his pieces reflect lines depicting the ebb and flow of the sea, representing the pull of the tides and the force of the waves.
The fluid, graceful lines of his sculptures and his ability to create a sense of movement mean his pieces are instantly recognisable.
'Usually when I am sculpting I feel free like a bird, like I'm flying - I feel I can do anything.'
His likes to work with Green Opal and the Serpentines because of the way light penetrates the inner beauty of the stone, which he describes as 'touching his heart'.
Stunning features and strong lines make this a very attractive example of Tamuka's work.
Lovely deep colour throughout with hints of green to the tail section.
This piece would enhance any home or garden setting.
A wonderful chance to own a piece of SHONA history.
A unique and unusual gift.
